An optical illusion (also called a visual illusion) is characterized by visually perceived images that differ from objective reality. The information gathered by the eye is processed in the brain to give a perception that does not tally with a physical measurement of the stimulus source. There are three main types: literal optical illusions that create images that are different from the objects that make them, physiological ones that are the effects on the eyes and brain of excessive stimulation of a specific type (brightness, color, size, position, tilt, movement), and cognitive illusions, the result of unconscious inferences….http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optical_illusion
I chose black and white optical illusion images and vintage eye illustrations to create this pair of eye trickery earrings. The optical illusion images are sealed under 1″ round epoxy domes. A cut out of an eye illustration tops one dome and detail from the illustration in a16mm metal setting sealed in with epoxy dangle below the 2nd dome. The earrings are finished on front (1st picture) and back (2nd picture) with a total of 5 optical illusions. The length of the earrings from the top of the surgical steel ear wires to the bottom of the disc is 2-3/4″.
