Book Cover Earrings John Steinbeck Quote East of Eden

“And this I believe: that the free, exploring mind of the individual human is the most valuable thing in the world. And this I would fight for: the freedom of the mind to take any direction it wishes, undirected. And this I must fight against: any idea, religion, or government which limits or destroys the individual. This is what I am and what I am about.”
— John Steinbeck (East of Eden)East of Eden

East of Eden is a novel by Nobel Prize winner John Steinbeck, published in September 1952.
Often described as Steinbeck’s most ambitious novel, East of Eden brings to life the intricate details of two families, the Trasks and the Hamiltons, and their interwoven stories. The novel was originally addressed to Steinbeck’s young sons, Thom and John (then 6½ and 4½ respectively). Steinbeck wanted to describe the Salinas Valley for them in detail: the sights, sounds, smells, and colors….

I created this pair of earrings with an image of a Vintage typewriter with a line from “East of Eden” on it’s paper, an image of John Steinbeck’s book “East of Eden” and an image of Steinbeck on laminated photo paper, layered with chipboard. The typewriter keys are replicas with images on wood. The earrings are decorated front (1st picture) and back (2nd picture). The length of the earrings from the top of the surgical steel ear wires to the bottom of the longest dangle is 2-3/4″ long.
